What To Do When Your Driver Had No Insurance

When you are a careful driver, you may figure that everything will go fine on the road. Accidents can happen even for the most careful of drivers, especially when other drivers are making careless moves. If you are hit by a driver that has no insurance, this can take a situation from bad to worse. Figuring out what to do after an accident can be hard without help. Here are three things to do if you are hit by a driver that has no insurance.

Call your insurance company to guide you

Many insurance companies have towing included in the policies. If you are hit, you need to exchange information with the other driver, then figure out how to get your car off the road safely. Even if your car is in a drive-able condition, it is best to call your insurance company immediately to ask them for help. They can give you advice on whether or not you should drive home, and they can tell you where to take your car for inspection.

Find a car repair shop that is attached to your insurance company

If the individual is not properly insured, it may be difficult to get a payment from them. Get an estimate for the damage done to your car immediately. The best place to go for an estimate is a repair shop that is associated with your insurance. This way, if you are not able to collect from the other party, you will be able to get a good deal on the repair through your insurance. This will save money in your pocket and allow you to recoup your investment at a later time. Be sure that the repair shop will allow you to pay out your deductible and that the rest will be covered by your insurance company.

Hire an insurance attorney

If it isn't obvious whether the other driver has insurance or not, you may need to hire a lawyer to help you figure out the next steps. An insurance lawyer can follow up with the insurance company of the individual at fault and figure out whether or not they have insurance. If the person does not have any insurance at the time of the accident, your attorney will be able to help you fight in court to get the money that is necessary to repair your car. Going after the other person in a civil suit is a good idea so that you do not have to worry about getting a payout from your insurance company. Allow your insurance attorney to structure the lawsuit via court or settlement talks so that you get the money for your car repairs sooner, rather than later.
